9:32 pm - Rudd denies playing favourites with soccer cup bid

parallelkites
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd says the Government will give all football codes in Australia the same support.

Mr Rudd met members of the Socceroos and Matildas squads in Sydney today to confirm his support for an Australian bid for the 2018 World Cup.

He will also meet a delegation of executives from football's world governing body in Sydney next week.

But Mr Rudd says he is not favouring one code over the others.

"We've got a huge challenge ahead which is to get behind soccer for the 2018 World Cup," he said.

So, the A-League is over for another year. What's everyone's thoughts on the season? How did your team go? Do you think it was an improvement on the 05/06 season? Did you go to the final? Does anyone else think the trophy looks like a shiny round toilet seat?

I would have preferred a much closer game yesterday, but a win's a win so I'm happy :) Personally I'm just trying to recover all the fluids I lost when they turned the Dome into a giant sauna by shutting the roof. Does anyone know the official reason why they did that? Surely a little bit of rain isn't going to affect the outcome of the game? And most of the spectators would have been grateful to get wet and cool off a bit! Ah well.

Moving forward, what will you be following until the 07/08 season starts? Premier League? Asian Champions League? AFL? Hahah.

current mood: tired

4:44 pm - This should make it easier for voting

broken_jigsaw
mrs_isaacsput a poll up in the previous entry for who should get 3rd and 4th place. this chart should help you understand a bit more about whats at stake and who plays who.

What Happens if...

Adelaide (currently 2nd, 30pts) v Mariners (6th, 24 pts)

WIN:  seals second spot and two lives in the finals
DRAW: could still finish second but relies on sydney failing to beat Queensland
LOSE:  could be overtaken by sydney or queensland but cannot be caught by fifth placed jets because of a superior goal difference

Newcastle (currently 5th. 27pts) v Melbourne (currently 1, 45pts)

WIN: Could take them to third spot and certain to be enough for top four placing
DRAW:  would still suffice if sydney beat Queensland
LOSE: Game over

Sydney FC (currently 3rd, 28pts) v Queensland (4, 28 points)

WIN: Will finish second if Adelaide fail to beat Mariners
DRAW: Seals at least fourth place, no matter what happens elsewhere
LOSE: Could miss the finals altogether-if the jets beat melbourne.

Queensland (4th, 28 points) v Sydney FC (3rd, 28 pts)

WIN: Will finish second if adelaide lose to the mariners. third at worst
DRAW: Only sufficient to clinch play-off place if jets fail to beat melbourne
LOSE: Could be good enough to take fourth but only if melbourne down jets

Sydney Fc

Delete it if it's not within the rules.

New Harry Kewell community. Just created; I searched around and found no others, so yeah. I've been wanting to make one for him for a while, but I guess it took an extra push for it to be created. I'll get promo banners up soon. Anyone who wants to help in any way is welcome, just comment.

I guess it was only matter of time. I've made the newjets community for Newcastle Jets fans.

It seems every team is getting a community set up. Who's gonna start the Knights' community?
